Open Clearface and tap the scan button on the home screen. Point your camera at the barcode on any skincare product, food, or cosmetic item. The app will automatically detect the barcode and pull up the full ingredient analysis in seconds. Make sure you're in a well-lit area for the best results.
Go to the Profile tab in the app. From there you can set your rosacea subtype (erythematotelangiectatic, papulopustular, phymatous, or ocular), your severity level, and any known trigger ingredients. The more information you add, the more personalised your ingredient safety scores will be.
Clearface can scan the barcodes of most skincare products, cosmetics, and food items sold in the US, UK, and many other countries. We use Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts — large open-source databases with millions of products. If a product isn't found, you can still look it up by searching for the product name.
Yes — Clearface is completely free to download and use.
Ingredient Analysis
The safety score (0–100) is calculated by cross-referencing every ingredient in a product against your personal rosacea profile — including your subtype, known triggers, and sensitivity level. Ingredients known to irritate rosacea-prone skin (such as fragrance, alcohol, SLS, and certain acids) lower the score. A score of 100 means no triggers were found for your specific profile.
No. Clearface is an informational tool only. The safety scores and ingredient flags are based on publicly available data and community-reported information — they are not a substitute for advice from a qualified dermatologist or healthcare provider. Always consult your doctor before changing your skincare routine, especially if you have severe rosacea or known allergies.
Rosacea is highly individual. A product may not contain any commonly known triggers but can still cause a reaction for you personally. We recommend using the Skin Diary to log your reactions so you can identify your personal triggers over time. You can also add custom triggers to your profile so future scans flag those ingredients for you.
Skin Diary
Go to the Diary tab and tap the + button. You can log your skin condition for the day, any products you used, foods you ate, and any reactions you noticed. Regular logging helps you spot patterns between what you're using and how your skin responds.
Yes. Open the diary entry you want to edit or delete, and use the edit or delete options available in the entry view. Deleted diary entries cannot be recovered.

Technical Issues
Try these steps: (1) Make sure you're in a well-lit area. (2) Hold the camera steady, about 10–20cm from the barcode. (3) Make sure the barcode isn't damaged or creased. (4) Close and reopen the app and try again. If the product still can't be found, it may not be in our database yet — email us at support@clearface.app with the product name and barcode number.
Try closing the app completely and restarting it. If crashes continue, delete and reinstall the app from the App Store (your account data is saved in the cloud so nothing will be lost). If the problem persists, email us at support@clearface.app with your device model and iOS version.
Clearface requires iOS 15.6 or later. It is compatible with iPhone 6s and all newer models. For the best experience, we recommend using iOS 16 or later on an iPhone 8 or newer.
